DocentParticipantWe became the proud new owners of a 1967 Dickerson on April 11. We bought her from the original owners. Her name is, and always has been, “Docent”.

Irish MistKeymasterHi Docent,
Welcome to the classic Dickerson Boat Owners group. As a new Dickerson Owner we would like to invite you to read our Newsletter which is on this web site’s home page and join the Association. I have no record of “Docent” in the Dickerson Directory of Boat Owners and we would love to add your information to our 2011 Directory which our Commodore Barry Creighton is now putting together. Barry will be contacting you for the desired information.
I have a 35 ft wooden Dickerson built in 1968 “Irish Mist”
Looking forward to hearing from you

DocentParticipantHello Irish Mist!
Docent is a wooden 35 Dickerson 240, ketch rigged. She has a fore and aft cabin. The couple we bought her from had her built and picked her up in Trappe, Maryland in October of ’67. Her hull # is 118. She is a real beauty!

Rainbow1969ParticipantWelcome Docent. Rainbow is a 1969 aft cockpit wood ketch which I have owned since 1993.
Hope we get to meet you at this year’s rendezvous since we all need help to stave off Irish Mist. Joe is the epitome of “age and treachery beat youth and skill every time”. Lots of fun. Any questions, we’re here to help.

DocentParticipantDocent is docked at the Port LaBelle Marina in Florida. The marina is located on the Okeechobee Waterway. We have some work to do before we will be able to sail Docent as far as Maryland. The previous owners were not as spry as they once were and had not been able to keep up with the maintenance like they should have. Maybe next year!?!

GalateaParticipantI am also a new Dickerson owner. Her name is Galatea (don’t know the hull #)- 1962 aft cockpit mahogany ketch. I’ll sail her this year in Penobscot Bay Maine.
She needs a little TLC (nothing that willing friends and a case of beer can’t take care of), and a new genoa.
Does anyone have recommendations of places to look for sails. I’ve talked to a few places, but the more the merrier. Also, and more importantly, does anyone know where I can find the lines of her, or a similar, hull?May 20, 2011 at 4:07 pm #888
Irish MistKeymasterCongratulations on your new Dickerson. Are you interested in old sails if so there are probably several owners like me that have old sails they have never used for a long time. A good place for used sails is Bacons in Annapolis. Tel is 410 263 4880
Send me your e mail so can add you to our mailing list unless you already are getting it. Would love to have you join our very active Dickerson Owners Association

GalateaParticipantGood find- that is indeed her. I have seen photos but not video yet. It was a help rigging her up this morning.
As for the sail, Bacon seems like the best bet. A genoa to get me through the next season or two would give me some time to figure out what I want from the rig, and save some money to boot.
I’m going to wait on handing out my email for now, but thanks.

Mike AitkenParticipantHey Docent….
I’ve seen the Youtube show…Pretty nice!I bought all new sails (main/mizzen/jib) a couple/three years ago. I have a 130 Jenny and a staysail ( a sail made for a club foot/boom arrangement – self tending ) – both hanked on – both made by Ratsey & Lapthorn – both are a bit old but very serviceable. I had them serviced & re sewn/patched where needed just before I bought the new sails – I installed a roller furler for the jib & that “mushroomed” into all new sails for the boat. I also have a new, never used storm sail for the boat. I’m in Concord NH….let me know if you are interested …They fit a D36 which carries pretty much the same rig as a 35…. I have photos of the 135 sailing…..Tag an email to Boatsnh@yahoo with a phone # if interested.
Have Fun!September 5, 2011 at 8:23 pm #892
Don & D WogamanKeymasterWelcome aboard DOCENT and GALATEA to the great group of Dickerson owners.
Anything we can do to help , just let us know. We are the owners of SOUTHERN CROSS, the last wooden hull built by Dickerson, a 41 built in 1974. Currently we are in Oriental, North Carolina, on the inner banks.
