Snow then 60s and sunshine. This is more like Texas weather. I’ll be working outside sanding our compainway door and applying cetol to our wheel in my basement. I hope all of you enjoy your weekend except for Joe Slavin who has been enjoying himself on Longboat Key for weeks while we suffer. :D

    Ahoy Lothlorien!

Thank you for this post. It will get us back to some state of normalcy after having to shut down forum registrations because of spamming. Many of us will be joining you in Spring preparations this weekend while the distinguished Captain of “Irish Mist” makes preparations to come back north and catch up from behind. His arch nemesis “Rainbow” is way out in front. I’ve already been treated to the smell of curing fiberglass. The race is on! (Don’t count our “Sampson Post” out–he is very crafty—shhhh)

Not Fair all around…Us folks up north ought to get some kind of BDC (bloody damn cold) handicap….Al Sampson will agree ( I hope)
That said…Did not know Joe was down south…I’d have offered to carry his bags!! We got another 8 inches of snow yesterday….The piles out front…well, they are tall and white…..
Today was “basement time” getting some trim organized and getting the new Head ready to go in… Spring is on the way!

Love the “limited” forum…not so much “delete” work…

So now—down to business. It’s time to refresh the cabin sole (I know that “Lothorien” has recently done a complete replacement). I don’t need to do that, but I do need to do a refinish. My dockmates are praising Varithane. Would appreciate any comments/product suggestions.

I have enough System 3 Polyurethane remaining to refinish several 37s. It is yours if you you are so inclined.

Bought one of Mike Aitken’s sampson post caps. Awesome! I have refinished my wheel and companionway doors with natural and gloss cetol. Going to see Lothlorien tomorrow, rain or shine. I need to make a paper template for the teak and holly sole under the table. I need to sand and cetol the trim around the companionway before I install the doors. 7 yards of wheat sunbrella arrived yesterday. Other than zippers which I ordered today, the v-berth cushions are ready for the seamstress. So much to do, need to retire!

Retirement is indeed UNDER RATED. Just refinished a section of cabin sole with Varathane oil based floor finish. Must admit that it is a test case, but after 6 coats, you can use it as a mirror (almost as shiny as “Iris” companionway hatch). Very good leveling, we’ll see how it holds up. And you can buy a gallon at a box store for less than you can buy a quart of anything at West Marine.

Will be up your way in Mathews tomorrow evening for a concert at Donk’s Theater—ahhhh REAL America.
