My 2003 Jabsco “Par” Diaphragm Pump–Model 36950-2000–stopped running when winterizing
the fresh water system several weeks ago. After checking the electrical system and finding there
was still voltage to the pump I took the pump home to look at it. Several years ago I probably
would have gone to West Marine and purchased a new pump for $195.00. But with today’s cost
of over $300 for a similar pump I decided to check it out and see if I could fix it.I connected it to my power supply– a portable 12 volt battery jump starter– and by passed the
pressure switch and the pump started, but it was not connected to water inlet or outlet. So I
thought I might need a new pressure switch. But decided to take the pump apart and then found
that the Pulsation Dampener was creased and leaking which put pressure on the pressure switch
and stopped the pump from operating. So big question is where do you get parts for a five year old pump no longer sold by West
Marine?Luckily I had my receipt of five years ago. I called West Marine who directed me to ITT in
Gloucester, MA who makes Jabisco (Tel: 978 281 0440). They did not have the part in stock so
they put me in touch with one of their largest distributors of Marine Pumps, Strainers etc.-Depco
located in Clearwater FL.I called Depco (Tel: 1 800 446 1656 or 727 446 1656) connected right away to Marine
Department who has an extensive inventory of Jabsco Pump parts and pumps. I decided since I
had the pump apart I might as well renew the rubber parts. I purchased a Pulsation Dampener, a
Diaphragm, a new set of Valves and a new Belt all for less than $80. Quite a bit less than over
$300 for a new pump.I was impressed with Depco’s service and their extensive pump inventory. I did get a free copy
of their catalogue which has diagrams showing all the pump parts with part numbers. You can
also see the catalogue on line at http://www.depcopump.com.Joe Slavin, Irish Mist

Fleet CaptainKeymasterGreat post, Joe. Thank you — very useful info for all. Maybe you direct the new found high pressure stream over the stern and get some extra speed to pass “Rainbow” next year.

adminParticipantI have to agree about Depco. At the yard we use them all the time. They had 38 of the $700 pumps I was ordering in stock. The ware house must be awesome! They are also very knowledgeable about rare pumps.
