bshambrookParticipantMy son and I are looking at a 1983 Farr 37 in Ohio named Conspiracy. We were wondering if any one knew the boat and had feedback as to condition? As we have not visited the boat yet, are there any specific areas we should look for moisture, delamination, water damage to bulkheads/floorboards, mechanical, electrical, rigging etc. The reason for the question is that we have found specific models of other boats will often have typical areas of concern. We are also looking at a F3 and would appreciate any feedback you might have as to why the Farr 37 would be a better alternative. Thanks in advance for your input.

Fleet CaptainKeymasterSorry that you haven’t had any good answers—but I’m not sure of any Dickerson Farr folks who regularly participate on this forum. And unfortunatley, I don’t have the expertise to help much either. Seems to me that 1983 might have been the first year this model was produced with the bulk of the production run intersperced with cruising D37’s in 1984. And if so–there would always be the concern of being on the front end of the learning curve. The good news is that the cruising boats built in 1983 were “overbuilt” if anything, with good solid structure. Think I’d look hard at possible water intrusion topside–particularly at corners/joints–but that’s just a hunch. And of course—these were built as “racers” and we have to assume that she was sailed to the limits.

Cuore Di LeoneParticipantgot ours 3 seasons ago from Aannapolis..sight unseen..on Ebay…brought it home to Ontario canada..would not regret it..awesome boat…the survey we had was great..a very very well built boat..no moisture whatsoever…would do it again in a heart beat…the boat is bulletproof…
I sailed on a Tripp 37 for 10 years before the Farr…i would take the Farr hands down…

bshambrookParticipantThanks for your input. We have decided against the boat in Ohio as it appears to have not been looked after with a number of potential problems. My son, who also lives in Ontario (Toronto) where the boat would have been located, has made an offer on a F3 which I believe has been accepted. You may meet him on Lake Ontario.
