The Coast Guard finally issued my papers and the abstract I ordered. It now appears I am the 5th owner of Sweetness (ex Severance). The boat was originally built for Paul T. and Thelma S. Baker in 1973. Dr. Baker as it turns out was an anthropologist of historical significance who pioneered human adaptability research. His wife appears to have been a colleague as her name appears on several publications along with Dr. Baker and others. I haven’t been able to find her academic credentials thus far.

Are there any records using this latest information that might indicate the sequence number of this hull as far as fiberglass Dickersons are concerned?

From the DOA records we have, I can shed a little light:

    – Through 1981, “Sweetness” was “Stede Bonnet” owned by Dr. and Mrs. Baker. She is Dickerson 36 hull number 17, probably (there are inconsistencies) meaning she was the 17th D36 produced.
    – From 1982, the boat and the Baker’s are lost from our files
    – From 1988 records, I can confirm at least 6 wood D36s produced prior to her (but there could have been one or two more – impossible to tell
    – Looking at the data we have on production sequence (backwards) from your boat to the first boat produced in 1971 (the year of conversion to fiberglass), “Sweetness” is the 10th boat.

So, it looks like she is the 10th (plus or minus one) fiberglass D36.

This may help with the missing info. According to the abstract I received the Bakers sold the boat to the John and Gladys Blair on December 1, 1978. A preferred mortgage in the amount of 46,749.80 by Provident National Bank was recorded on Feb. 14, 1979. The Blairs apparently renamed the boat Severance. The boat was sold to Michael Huber on March 23, 2007, after which it was sold to Kenneth James on October 5, 2007. I purchased her on October 11, 2011 from Kenneth James.
