Snoodle TimeParticipantI have the old Datamarine instruments mounted on the forward bulkhead of the cockpit. The depth display has died and I want to install new instruments. Has anyone else replaced the Datamarine? The old Corinthian with 4 inch holes. Help is appreciated.

Irish MistKeymasterHi Steve, I replaced mine with Standard Horizon SL 45 for knotmeter and DL 45 for Depth. They are designed for a 4-inch hole. You can contact them at following Website http://www.standardhorizon.com/
I belong to Dickerson Association and we maintain a list of Dickerson Owners, boat size, name tel no, e mail etc. We would be pleased to add you to our list.
My boat was built in 1968, it is a center cockpit ketch. I keep it in Deale on Chesapeake Bay.
You can contact me directly here or at my e mail jws2827@aol.com
Good luck

Fleet CaptainKeymasterSteve,
Have you put Snoodle Time to bed for the winter? Joe, John and the boys up the Bay have already started pickling, removing sails, and all those other depressing activities. I’m resisting until the last minute. Water is still on at my dock–that’s my timer. Want to get a “Dick Clark (Imagine)” style Bimini made this winter. Still haven’t decided who to get to do it. Think Canvas and Cushion would be a good choice?
Let me know if you need an extra hand installing the new instruments.

Snoodle TimeParticipantThanks Joe, I will have a look there. I did join last year, but it took almost a year to get my check cashed and now I really don’t know when my membership runs through. Never received much of anything and of course the internet site is very quiet. Thanks again…

Snoodle TimeParticipantHi Barry. No, have not done any winter work either. I bought gasket material for my portlights and got one installed today. It was a bit of a chore, but I think it turned out alright.
Jo is very good at C&C, but she is very expensive. Now is the time of year though as her work slows down. I don’t like that guy in the salt ponds area. Can’t remember his name though, but he does not use zippers and I don’t like the looks like that.
Making up a maintenance list for winter projects though. Lots to do and so little time.
Thanks for the offer…. I may take you up on that.

Snoodle TimeParticipantIt looks like Standard Horizon does not make those instruments any longer… Drats

Irish MistKeymasterSteve I found them on the internet and their Web Site had those instruments. Did you talk to them by phone or what
I will check out some possibilities at my end and get back to you. Maybe we can find a distributor with some.

Irish MistKeymasterSteve How about Ray Marine ST 60 plus speed and St 60 Depth.
Mounting hole for each is 3.54 inches wide and external dimensions are 4.3 inches wide by 4.5 inches high. They are available from West Marine. See page 96 of catalogue. They are popular so should get them at any Marine store. Price at West Marine is $400 for each.
Hope this works.

Snoodle TimeParticipantThe holes are 4″ in diameter so I figured I would not have enough material to cover the existing hole with the new instrument and prevent leaks. I’d have to build up something as an interface and seal both sides.
That is what I might wind up doing.

Irish MistKeymasterSteve In talking to some instrument experts one suggestion was to use plexiglass or formica as a interface. He told me you can probably rent a hole saw drill bit to cut external circle and internal circle from Lowes. Also a 1/4 inch thick piece of rubber glued into hole as a filler might do it.
Good Luck

adminParticipantSteve,
We use a product called King Starboard for this type of application. Much better than brittle materials like plexiglass and made for outside marine applications. Small pieces can be purchased at Jamestown distributors or if you have a local boatyard, you may be able to buy a small scrap.December 3, 2008 at 12:50 pm #385
Snoodle TimeParticipantThanks,
I will have to try that. I can’t find anything that will deal with such a large hole that the old data marine stuff resides in.
Thanks again,
