Removing paint etc from plexi glass

Ahoy. Since it is raining a bit and I cant paint the Irish Mist I did a google search on cleaning plexi glass which I need to do. Some have used easy lift off paint striper,acetone, easy off used to clean stoves–but all of these cloudied the glass and they had to use polish to restore it. But Google Fred found best results with his wife’s nail polish remover–did not even cloud the glass.

Since I already have some cleaning to do I will try it on the front cabin ports which have a bit of paint and resin Will let you know how it works

Interested in any tips you have for cleaning plexi glass

Hi Joe,

Thought that you are cleaning REAR facing ports for a better view of “Rainbow” ???

I will add that I have used the “headlight lens” polishing kits sold at Auto Stores, with an electric drill polisher, and they do a pretty good job of refreshing weathered and checked hatches and portlights.

Do NOT use glass cleaner on plexi glass/lexan/etc.

Gentlemen,

I have recently completed using 3M polishing kits to refinish all thirteen of my ports. It did a great job, I can see out again! Hope it will help me find my to Oxford in June.

Thanks for the glass polishing suggestions Barry and Al. Will polishing the Aft cabin one especially good so I can see Rainbow. Have fwd cabin and deck painted and sanding and finishing trim with Sikens. Waiting for Fiberglass helper to do Aft cabin. Getting there slowly. Looking forward to another great Rendezvous. Have a good sail South Al and you North Barry
