On my old AP and the new one, one end of the connecting rod was connected directly to the quadrant. The sensor was mounted on a small platform that was mounted to a stringer near the rudder post. The mount on the quadrant was about the same distance from the center of the rudder post as the length of the sensor arm.

On my new AP, I used the same connector as the old one, but had to make a new platform for the sensor and moved it so it is not quite the same but very similar none the less.

I don’t have any pictures as it was hard to get any pictures in such a tight space. Hope this description will give you some ideas.

Isn’t there a Dickerson rule that states Dickerson vessels must always be ready? I think so.

With time off and distance to travel, I am thinking of leaving on a Wednesday and getting in Oxford Friday. Then leaving Sunday and sailing up to Annapolis for two days and then make my way back south and maybe going down the eastern shore with a few stops and Mobjack Bay before my return the following Sunday. Hoping the weather will be better since it was so bad last year.

Does not look like there will be much wind for Saturday but it is early in the forecast.

Time will tell if it holds a really good course under sail. I might get out for a sail this weekend if there is any wind. Temps look good so far. I think I am going to hold off on teak stuff until the pollen season ends. Struggled with it last year, but wanted to get it done.

What were your destinations going up to Oxford last year? I’m thinking of leaving the Wednesday before to get there.

It is in the plans to do the rendezvous this year. It will be the first for me. After that, I am hoping to get up to Annapolis for a new days and then head back to Hampton.

All my other instruments are old Data Marine, so no further integrations for the time being. Just can’t justify spending lots more money to replace things that are working fine.

I think the next big project will be the haul out and bottom painting, hull polishing and waxing. I did the compounding and waxing while the boat was in the water last year, and that was hard work. Going to avoid that this time around.

This AP is much better than the wheel pilot I had before. No noise and, at least motoring, it holds a very steady course. The only time I saw the wheel moving much was when I was going across the current near the HRBT and if I was hand steering, I would have been moving the wheel that much too.

Look forward to meeting you too.

The hot and neutral are reversed on the input. If it does not do it when hooked to shorepower, it must be your pigtail.

I think we are driving to Baltimore on Friday, at the show Saturday and maybe even Sunday…. of course all depends on the weather except for going to Baltimore.

Barry, We motored by the Old Point Marina today and looked for your boat, but alas we could not see her as we passed by. Yes, the motor is back in running condition… Yippy!!!! Now for the fall sailing season.

Well, my mechanic had a head that will work on my boat he will sell me for $300. As it turned out, my head was not cracked, but rather the exhaust box was leaking antifreeze into the head through the exhaust ports and it pretty much let go on the 4th of July weekend. It has been a rather painful experience. He is replacing the head as mine did have quite a bit of pitting. So once the repairs on the exhaust box are complete, maybe I will have a running engine.

Barry, I remember your boat having been repowered with a Yanmar engine. What model and year is that? I may be repowering myself, as the cylinder head is cracked. Wasted lots of money finding that out the hardway.

I blew a head gasket on the 4th of July weekend and am hoping I will be up and running tomorrow. It has been a long and painful process. Doing the actual repairs to the head were not to bad, but it was tough getting the gasket kit from Weterbeke. Now if I can get my mechanic back tomorrow I should be in business.

I know it feels good to be back in the water. I’ve managed to get some really nice trips in already…. this has been one of the best springs in a long time. Hopefully this is a good sign for a great sailing season for a change. Will most likely do the Wednesday night race on a neighbors boat. Steve
