    Mike,

Pictures on their way to you. Please don’t mind the brightwork condition. I’m slowly (continuously) getting to it.

I’ll go off topic for a minute here—-Yesterday and today I’m stripping and refininishing the head floorboards—next the cockpit. I’m trying “Citristrip” from Home Depot and “Bar Keepers Friend” from Fresh Market. The “Bar Keepers Friend” has the same oxalic acid as most teak cleaners for about 1/15th the cost. I’m sure we could start another thread on brightwork. Lots of different preferences out there.

    Happy New Year Mike,

Crew Rest was partially blue water fitted when we purchased her to include a Lofrans Tigres to weigh the CQR and an ALL chain rode. And you are right about the back—the windlass is a “luxury” that we couldn’t do without. I’m comfortable dropping the hook in any blow. We also carry a Fortress 16 on a seconday rode with about 25′ chain. The windlass installation is very tidy aft of the Sampson post on a teak base with a 3/4″ plywood backing plate under deck. Two foot switches mounted to starboard and a salt water washdown fixture/hose complete the package. Step on the up switch–squirt the hose–sweet. The windlass is powered from the engine start battery.

Steve completed a similar installation on Snoodle Time recently. So, I can’t speak for everyone–but we spend a fair amount of the time on the hook and I wouldn’t do without it.

I’d post a picture if I could figure out how.

The TV on Crew Rest is located in the same position as yours although in the end I chose to retain the existing cathode ray tube unit (a small “under the kitchen cupboard” type). I had previously added a small DVD player and yesterday I added a digital to analog converter box and coax from the port locker recess back to an external outlet on the starboard coaming, I now plug in a digital antenna outside, lay that on deck and “ta da” pretty good reception.

Look forward to seeing you—Happy New Year.

    Steve,

Would like to “help” (observe/learn) if you are going to do this week or weekend. I found a good illustrated guide of the rebed by Don Casey. Looks very straight foward–using masking tape and “overfill” seems to be the secret. Send me a note or give me a buzz and I’ll join you.

Converted Crew Rest’s TV to digital (added a converter box and digital antenna) today. Now get 9 clear channels. What ARE my priorities?

Appreciate the info. I have a couple of lovely pictures of “Carousel”, the “last 37” mentioned by Alan on my other computer. I’ll include those pics in the Directory.

Thanks for the hull numbers. I’m doing my best to create a list of boats in proper production sequence.

In looking through a few pictures that our members have sent in for the Directory—looks to me as the newest boats may have come out of the yard with st. st. bezels. Snoodle Time ????

I assume that on Crew Rest and older boats (1984) the ports had been painted white from the beginning. Am I correct?

    Al,

Think most of us are interested or will be. How about giving us a taste of your magic here on the forum.

    Thanks,

I already passed this factoid on to Doug and Darla, but for some of the rest of you

“Daruma” was once “Running Free”– a multi-year winner of the Dickerson Trophy. So they are not only proud new owners of a marvelous yacht, but one proven the “Fastest Dickerson in the World”. Watch out Commodore Dick! We chartered her 20 years ago and I’m sure she’s just as sweet and sound as she was then.

    Cheers,
    Barry

    Alan,

Very nice. Makes me homesick. A favor, please. The next pretty day when you have your camera and a spare minute, would you please send me a picture? If I remember correctly, there is a routered sign over the door on the last shop building parallel to the road to the boat ramp that says “Dickerson Boatbuilders”. If I could get a .jpg or .jpeg, I’d like to include it in the Directory that Joe and John and I are working on for the DOA.

    Thanks,
    Barry

Great post, Joe. Thank you — very useful info for all. Maybe you direct the new found high pressure stream over the stern and get some extra speed to pass “Rainbow” next year.

    Steve,

Have you put Snoodle Time to bed for the winter? Joe, John and the boys up the Bay have already started pickling, removing sails, and all those other depressing activities. I’m resisting until the last minute. Water is still on at my dock–that’s my timer. Want to get a “Dick Clark (Imagine)” style Bimini made this winter. Still haven’t decided who to get to do it. Think Canvas and Cushion would be a good choice?

Let me know if you need an extra hand installing the new instruments.

    Barry

p.s. Capn’ Joe always gives good advice
