    Terrific News,

Quite frankly, it’s been a little steamy for us, so we are also looking foward to some great fall sailing. We’ll be hailing ya’ on the weekends.

    Hi Shane,

Sorry for delay in answering—been out in the Midwest. I try to track: size, rig, boat name, sail nmber, year purchased, homeport, hull number, documentation number, owner name, address, phone numbers, email address, previous boat names, and previous owners.

BTW, previous owners were Lee Schwoerer and David Foley. The sister boat to yours is “Celeste” in Sturgeon Bar, IL.

    Cheers,
    Barry

    Ahoy Shane,

Welcome to the forum. Checking the 36′ Auxilary Ketch brochures, we find that Dickerson offered your boat either strip-planked or fiberglass at the buyer’s request. In the case of the fiberglass option, the hull is hand layed fiberglass and the topsides/cockpit and deck are 1/2″ marine plywood incased in fiberglass.

Joe passed along the picture of your boat that I’ll include in the 2010 Directory along with more complete information that I trust you will send along to me. I note a very unique custom cockpit surround. Rshel34 has beautifully restored every inch of his 36 and is a great source of info for us all.

I don’t have the info in front of me, but believe “Nauti Legal” was documented as “Soul Food” and “Wave Dancer” in her prior lives. There are several Dickerson’s in Florida–many listed in the DOA Members Directory.

    Dominic,

Opinions on treating brightwork are like belly buttons—everybody has one. The one thing we all have in common is that Dickersons have a lot of it. When it looks good, you are bound to get “ooohs and aaahs” up and down your anchorage. When it is flakey and neglected, you will get a comensurate number of “too bads”. But let’s be honest—if we wanted no maintenance and were happy looking like floating Clorox bottles, we would have Hunters or Catalinas.

We have lots of different approaches to exterior wood treatment among our DOA members. I’m a “Cetol the lot” guy. And I just use the base Cetol Marine — no gloss or flat over it. After inital preparation (the hardest but most important step), I touch it up twice a year. Some of our members use proper spar varnish — absolutely beautiful, but too much talent required for me. Some use oil (I used to–but you have to keep after it.) Some just let some or all of it “go au naturel”

As for interior painting, I will defer to Irish Mist or Rainbow or some of the real experts who have more experience.

In the end–enjoy the chance to bond with your boat (and enjoy a cool beverage or 6)

    Thanks Mike,

It’s actually Steve and Snoodle Time with the engine issues–and I’m sure he appreciates your thoughts and will come up on the forum with a progress report.

Steve asked about Crew Rest because she was repowered (and “re-branded”) by a previous owner.

    Ahoy Dominic,

Welcome to the Dickerson Family. I bet you are underwhelmed by the lack of responses to your query. This is a very conservative group. IT’S TEAK. (but it really doesn’t matter–it’s pretty and it requires “bonding time”). I’m certain that our “Neighborhood Greeter”, Joe has been in touch and I add my welcome to his. We are all very proud to be Dickerson fans.

As I’m sure Joe told you, I’m the collector of trivia–so when you get a chance, drop an email with everything you know about your boat–maybe I can help you fill in the missing data.

    Hello All,

I answered Steve by separate email—but for the rest of you viewers (and not posters), Crew Rest’s last locomotion resort is a 55 hp Yanmar. The previous owner had done a very tidy repower and “Yanny” has just over 200 hours on the clock. I’m very pleased but know that Steve would greatly appreciate any thoughts/suggestions/recomendations on how he might proceed with Snoodle Time. Please post your thoughts as I am anxious to have him back out on the bay.

    Hey Steve!

Thought you had fallen off the end of the earth. Judy and I are planning to be out Saturday morning….let’s add a little class to Hampton Roads together?

But more importantly, how about we plan a weekend and meet Bob and Sarah in Mobjack Bay? You really need to see beautiful Aequaminitis.

    Hi Cin,

Guess everyone is exhausted–your post has gone unanswered. Suspect most all of us have gone strictly GPS and can’t replicate your system. Although I can only speak for Raymarine and Nexus–most suppliers seem pretty responsive to requests for user documentation. I assume you have requested help at custsvc@si-tex.com ?

The Rendezvous was a grand success — even though Mother Nature threw us a few curves. Keep checking the web site as we are about to post a synopsis and lots of pictures. Trust that you will have a grand time at Block Island and you will make an upcoming gathering down south (where the sailors are gentler and not prone to fuff you up).

When you get a chance, please email me all the relevant info on ya’ll and your boat for the archives/directory.

Spending a peaceful night in the Cambridge Municipal Marina on the T-Head across from Southern Cross–know that D and Don are here but we haven’t seen them yet. Expect that we will leave in the AM to meet up with the Peoples’ Republic of Maryland Fleet circa 1300 coming through Knapps.

We will use USN Rules of Engagement–let’s circle around Choptank River Light until we have enough for a parade–then “first one in the air is lead”!

Looking foreward to the arrival of Volantis—by this point, we need some class (adding dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar affair.

Everyone check in on channel 68.

Whoops—correction. Hampton to Mill Creek TUESDAY and arrival on WEDNESDAY. We’ve thrown out the clocks and calendars.

Whew—-we made it! If anybody needed affirmation of the seaworthiness of our Dickersons, you should have been with us the last couple of days. Hampton to Mill Creek on Monday and then on to Trippe Creek past Oxford yesterday. Put 1 hour on the engine clock in two daysl (Boy, are we going to be heavy for the race.) Rafted up with Bob and Sarah Shelton on Aequaminitas on Monday evening. Wait till you all see the beautiful work they have done.

Having a leisure morning on the hook and listening to the pattering of rain. Think we will head to Cambridge for tonite to see family. Have good voyages–we’ll be waiting for you.

A quick progress report—-no known changes. There will no doubt be match-ups enroute while still in the Bay, but it looks like several of the boats from the Peoples’ Republic of Maryland are planning to come through the Narrows at around 1300 on Friday. Will the fleet from the Great Commonwealth of Virginia be poised inside the Choptank to greet them? Will it be as spectacular as the Battle of the Iron Clads in Hampton Roads—or even a remake of the Oyster Wars? Only time will tell. Stay tuned, be there, and listen up on Channel 68.
