Chesapeake Boat Works. Piankatank side of Deltaville. Best rates in Deltaville and many DIY in yard. Far less expensive than Maryland.

Foam is used to quiet in- the- mast lines. Quick and dirty, if you do not want to install a track.

Bought one of Mike Aitken’s sampson post caps. Awesome! I have refinished my wheel and companionway doors with natural and gloss cetol. Going to see Lothlorien tomorrow, rain or shine. I need to make a paper template for the teak and holly sole under the table. I need to sand and cetol the trim around the companionway before I install the doors. 7 yards of wheat sunbrella arrived yesterday. Other than zippers which I ordered today, the v-berth cushions are ready for the seamstress. So much to do, need to retire!

I have enough System 3 Polyurethane remaining to refinish several 37s. It is yours if you you are so inclined.

Would the DOA be interested in providing a scholarship award to a graduating senior of a Cambridge area waterman? I think we could come up with $500 between us. The high school would administer it. It would be a chance to give back to the community, create local interest in our club and provide an opportunity for a youngster it get a head start. Please post your thoughts!

We removed the staysail from Lothlorien. It was very inefficient, always in the way, made tacking the genoa (not a yankee) a chore. The staysail had a lattice work of rope to attach to the stay. I assume to increase the foot length. Very inefficient. We went with just the genoa. And are happy.
Now that said, if you want true singlehanded sailing, tight sheeting angles and off wind performance, then look at what Bob Shelton has done with Aequanimitas. He installed a Hoyt jib boom which uses a furling 100% jib. Very fast.

Thank you Barry for the time and effort you have put forth for Lothlorien and the DOA. One more question. Maybe…. What is the correct Dickerson sail insignia? I believe I have seen D36 as well as a large D with 36 within the D. Thanks for any assistance!

    Barry,

Thank you for your research and sail number 12. I will wait for membership feedback prior to clamping ownership. The experimental hull number is very interesting! Perhaps you would elaborate.

    Thanks again!

I would like to petition the DOA to assign Lothlorien a sail number.

    Quote from Paula’s email:
,three wooden 36’s, #179 was sold to F. Seville for
26,083 in May. # 181 was sold to J. Ford for $26,294 in August. #
187 was sold to B. Nashold for 27,832. in November.

    Thank you.

    Mike,

Let me rephrase my Shelton quote. Lothlorien has more freeboard than the FB D36. Bob tells me if the owner wanted more headroom or engine space then an extra plank or two could be added. Not so with FB hulls. Truly, a customized craft. Reminds me of jazz; centralized core theme with endless variations.
