Several Dickerson owners will be attending the boat show (you will recognize us by our “Treasure Chest” shirts–you don’t have one?–order online). Looking forward to meeting you. We’ll assist with your marketing.

    You bet Garry!

Happy to see that you are engaged here on the Forum. If you do a YouTube search on “naburtner” you can find several of Neal’s videos as he chronicled his trip south. Really good stuff that makes us all jealous. Hope that you can join us at the Western Shore Roundup 16-17 September and/or next year’s Rendezvous over Father’s Day weekend (details here on the web). Each event is getting better every year. And finally, there will be a contingent of us again attending the US Sailboat Show, so we might see you then.

Nancy—I keep records for the association on boats and their owners. I’m not sure if I have a record of your ownership. I would appreciate that information so that we accurately reflect your “attachment to the family”. Please send me name/period of ownership. Here or private email is fine.

    Best Wishes,
    Barry

We understand fond memories! “Compass Rose” still graces the bay. A quick photo of her in this YouTube video from last October taken from “Eole” enroute to warmer climes. If you would like more info, send me a personal email with identifying info., please.

    Great News!

Several boats stay on the hook in Town Creek and right off Mears Yacht Haven. You will be among “friends”. Listen up on channels 16/69 and join us for the arrival parade if you can. Drop me an email if I can provide you any other info to assist.

    Thanks,

Join up at 1345 at the Choptank River Light. Check in with “Crew Rest” on Channel 69. Plan to depart the light at 1400.

    Steve,

You are certainly NOT out of bounds. This is a wonderful initiative–I would suggest that all we need is some information and a coordinator. Our DOA has a fair number of veterans (including your Commodore) who understand the sacrifices our great young men and women have made.

I would ask that you think about providing some information to “Irish Mist” and we will include it in an upcoming Newsletter. With a majority of our members in the Chesapeake Bay area, I think that we are perfectly positioned to support Bethesda and Walter Reed. I would be honored to support the effort.

    Time to let us know!

By now, you should have received your Spring 2011 DOA Newsletter with the “official word” on the Rendezvous via snail mail. After some uncertainty regarding the venue for our Saturday night event—all is now secure. So I would ask you to two things for sure and a couple of others (if you feel like it).

    The “To-Do’s”:

    1. Send your dues and and your registration forms for the Rendezvous back to Dick Young “right now”.
    2. Let “Plover” know your intentions to participate in the post-rendezvous cruise.

    If you feel like it:

    1. Let me know your intentions to join the “Arrival Parade”.
    2. Let me know anything else you would like to do/not do
    3. Order your official apparel at the Treasure Chest
    4. Get your boat ready to win — “Irish Mist” is

    Cheers

    Hi Joe,

Thought that you are cleaning REAR facing ports for a better view of “Rainbow” ???

I will add that I have used the “headlight lens” polishing kits sold at Auto Stores, with an electric drill polisher, and they do a pretty good job of refreshing weathered and checked hatches and portlights.

Do NOT use glass cleaner on plexi glass/lexan/etc.

    Hi Malone,
I consulted “standby-expert” Nigel Calder and he advises that the two issues are permeability (read odor) and flexibility (read install-ability). The choices are PVC and rubber. In either case, hose must have smooth inner walls and specially formulated for sanitation. “Crew Rest” has Shields 101 and no odor issues.

    Rick and Dottie,

Thanks very much for sharing your experience and results (and a good referral). It’s been a year full of big projects for many of our members. “Rhythms in Blue” has a new rig. “Snoodle Time” has been completely repowered and of course the skippers of “Irish Mist” and Rainbow” aren’t telling what they’ve done in search of another tenth of a knot. So thanks for your willingness to share your experiences.

The plans for the rendezvous are coming together nicely. I stopped by Mears Yacht Haven last week to do a “face to face” with Tom and Kim. They are eager to see us all–our New England Fleet Captain will be sailing down, we will have some new (to us) boats from the lower Bay and all signs point to “bigger and better”. So I ask all members to make plans and reservations now — I have my spot reserved!

    Mike,

You described my thoughts to a tee–replaced the autohelm linear actuator on “Crew Rest” a few years ago and said, “wire and chain look good to me!” Don’t think we put too much stress on these. The previous owner had replaced the “brake shoes” on the Edson system–and that will need doing again, but I don’t see the need to replace things that are working fine—-although, a steering failure is something I’d rather happen to somebody else—and not in my marina. I’d think replacing the clamps will give you a peaceful night’s sleep.

“Snoodle Time” did a very nice autohelm installation not long ago and maybe Steve has an opinion?
