Irish MistKeymasterHi Dana,
Welcome to the Dickerson Owners Web Site. Great to have you as a member of the Weeb Site and we hope you will join the Dickerson Owners Association. It is a great group of really enthausiastic Sailors who love their classic boats. An application form and other materials are on the Home page of the Web Site.
I have a 35 ft Dickerson ketch center cockpit. I took out the dinett, made a 18 inch wide L shaped seat and then made a folding table hinged to the forward bulkhead opposite the horizontal leg of the L. The “Table” is hinged to the bulkhead and has a folding leg. It can be used as a table with leg or you fold leg up and lower table to fill up L and put cushions on it to make a berth.
If you are interested I can send you a photo.
Barry Creighton who produces our great Dickerson Directory will be in touch to get details on your contact info, boat name etc. Where do you keep your boat Dana.
Good luck with your Dickerson and keep in touch.
I am adding your e mail to our mailing list so you can receive our News Letter and other Announcements.

Irish MistKeymasterHi Parker.
I hope you have your fuel problems fixed for West Shore Round UP. As I wrote you I have entire tank pumped out. Surprising the sludge is really thick. In fact when clogged fuel line from tank had solid fuel–like a cigar in it.
See you soon
Joe
Irish MistKeymasterHi Don.
Barry warned you I might be in touch. I have had for 27 years a 35 center cockpit, Irish Mist built in 1968 or1969. It is sail number 79 which was the 6th 35 built after Restless. It is a great boat sails like a dream and doesn’t leak a drop. Mine has the original Westerbeke engine which when last taken out to renew some pan gaskets–the engine mechanic couldn’t believe it. The bearings had no noticable wear.So maybe you should be economical. Sell the motor boat and your 50 ft sail boat, keep the new 35ft which will never disapoint you, and use your savings to join the Dickerson Organization–See Membership Form on Home page of Web Site–and to come to our annual Rendezvous. Barry–who is really too modest–has put together a new Dickerson Directory with listings of all known Dickersons that you automatically get with your $35.00 membership fee. You also receive a quarterly News letter. We have 60 members from some 23 states
You are our latest lost Dickerson. Charles and Betty King lived in Oxford when they had Restless.
Welcome again and let us know if we can be of any help.

Irish MistKeymasterHi Shane,
Great to hear from you and welcome to the Forum. I have a 35 Dickerson which is wood. Yours I believe is fiberglass over wood which is the way most 36 were made.
We do have a Lost Dickerson Contest and you are a Lost Dickerson since I do not find you listed in the 2009 Directory.
Check out the Home Page of the Directory for information on the contest and for membership information. We have a real good group of members who all love their Dickerson sail boats.
Barry Creighton–moderator on this web site– prepares the Dickerson Directory and will be in contact with you to get information on name of boat and other contact info.
and photographs.Let us know if we can help in any way.

Irish MistKeymasterHi Dominic,
My wooden 35 Ft Dickerson has teak toe rails and trim. Hull is mahogany strip planked. Strips of wood about 1 inch X 1 glued together and nailed edge to edge and then fastened to frames. Amazing cconstruction. My boat built in 1968 doesn’t leak a drop–knock on wood.
Send Barry address info, name of boat etc when you have a chance so we can fill out missing blanks in our new Directory. He would also love to have a picture of you and your boat.
I assume you received my earlier note and the July News Letter
Let us know if we can help.

Irish MistKeymasterHi Guys,
Should be a interesting race since Commodores Dick and Karen Clarke are going to for the first time put out drop buoys to get a triagular course with a beat to windward and two reaches. As for Irish Mist I have my winning ladies crew all signed up. They will bring in addition to their sailing and cooking talen a guitar and rich songs. Secret is to keep boat out of water at least a week before race to dry it out. Hope you can join in the fun Snoodle Time.
See you at Oxford
Irish MistKeymasterThanks Mike,
I will let you know how I make out.
Tiverton RI is a nice little harbor on the Saconnet. They have moorings and there are several Marinas there.
All the Best
Joe
Irish MistKeymasterGood arrangement Mike.
Hope you and Una can make the Rendezvous in June.
What is your secret for weeping Seacocks. I find sometime when I move it from winter closed to spring open I sometime get a little leaking even if I tighten the nut pretty good. My only solution in the water is to remove the nut while seacock is in closed position and clean end and put a lot of heavy grease on it and hope it works. Once in the boat yard I can take it out and grind it in a bit.
Appreciate your comments.
All the Best
Joe
Irish MistKeymasterIn a separate E mail note Randy Bruns –Rythms in Blue–offered the following advice on fixing cabin lealks. The great thing about Randy’s suggestion is that you can un screw the eyebrow molding in the winter and take them home to sand and varnish. John Freal –Rainbow–suggested tightening of bolts that fasten cabin sides to deck. Often these work loose and that could be where the leak is. Just run some water along the deck to check it out suggested John.
Here are Randy’s comments:
“Can’t help you with a quick fix on the eyebrows. Wouldn’t use 5200 as the eyebrows might not come off when they leak again. as they will. Maybe 4200, silicone or that Boat Life caulk that doesn’t harden.
I took mine off, filled all the rot behind the eyebrows, fiberglassed the bulkhead to above the eybrows with epoxy, drilled 3/8″ holes where the eyebrow screws went then filled the holes with epoxy. (I try hard to put screws only into epoxy and not wood on my boat). I then bare wooded the eybrows followed by epoxy. I overdrilled the screwholes in the eybrows and filled those with epoxy. Then I used 2 part polyeurethane over the epoxied eyebrows. Then put the eyebrows back without any caulk. Now I can remove them every 3-4 years in a few minutes and more easily varnish them. Hows that for being anal.
Randy”
Irish MistKeymasterGlad you received Certificate OK We did not get any returns so looks like all 51 Members received one. We did get some appreciative notes on Barry’s artistic design. If you win this year your design will appear.
See you at the Rendezvous.
Joe
Irish MistKeymasterHi,
My daughter has a cat boat “Legacy” built in Tiverton that she keeps at Brewers and my son in law has a Catilana 25 “Rascal”. Did you send Barry Creighton your boat info. Pls send me your tel so I can call you when I come to RI.
My Dickerson is sail No 79. A great boat. Doesn’t leak a drop except for eye molding around cabin top. I think Stove was a custom item. All Dickersons were built to order. For example I have a small toilet in back cabin. Also when we bought it in 1982 we took out Dinet and put in a folding table and setee like the 37 have. Also put in new formica counters and teak floor boards. I will try to find some pictures to send to you.
Looking forward to meeting you both.
Be great if you could drive down to Oxford and come to the Rendezvous at the Tred Avon Yacht Club on June 19-21. You would get a lot of ideas looking at about a dozen Dickersons ranging from 35-41 ft. Let me know if you are interested and will send you info.

Irish MistKeymasterHi,
My wooden Center cockpit Dickerson Irish Mist was probably built just before your boat. I also have a small charcoal/wood heater. Agree not very good for cruising. I seem to recall talking to someone on the Web Site that had an extra 4-107 Westerbeke. If you are interested I will try to trace him down.
Where do you keep your boat in RI. My daughter lives in Portsmouth and I go there usually around 4th of July. I live in VA and sail on the Chesapeake.
Here is some interesting information on heaters.
